Others may argue that if we make public education free many students will still be burdened with high student fees. The article “Obama's SOTU Free College Plan is Bad for Poor Americans” says “the plan is badly targeted. Covering the full tuition of all community college students would mean middle-income, and even upper-income, students would get hefty subsidies, even though many do not need the help. Meanwhile, many lower-income students at community colleges would still not have the money to cover the non-tuition costs, such as books, supplies and transportation and room and board for those not living at home”(Butler). This article proves the point that lower income students would still have to pay money to go to college, but everyone would have to pay non-tuition cost. One could apply for grants and scholarships to help cover these non tuition costs. The main problem in our fight is summed up by the article” Free higher education is a human right” how “America's colleges and universities are quietly shifting the burden of their big tuition increases onto low-income students, while many higher-income families are seeing their college costs rise more slowly, or even fall” (Eskow). If we stop pushing the burdens onto the lower income families and push it in the other direction then we might be able to have a chance at getting what we want. In conclusion one of the solutions that we could use is to make college free and make it equal cost to poor and rich families and have the poorer families college costs more subsidised
